25 Days of Christmas – December 1

SCRIPTURE

Genesis 1:1

In the beginning, God created the Heaven and the Earth.

Genesis 1:27

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.

John 1:1-5

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

SONG

O Come All Ye Faithful

O come all ye, Faithful
Joyful and triumphant!
Oh come ye, oh come ye
To Bethlehem!
Come and behold Him
Born the King of angels!
Oh come let us adore Him
Oh come let us adore Him
Oh come let us adore Him
Christ, the Lord!

Sing, choirs of angels,
Sing in exultation!
Sing, all ye citizens of Heav’n above!
Glory to God, all glory in the Highest!
Oh come let us adore Him
Oh come let us adore Him
Oh come let us adore Him
Christ, the Lord!

Yea, Lord, we greet Thee
Born this happy morning!
Jesus, to Thee be all glory giv’n!
Word of the Father, now in flesh appearing!
Oh come let us adore Him
Oh come let us adore Him
Oh come let us adore Him
Christ, the Lord!

ACTIVITY

Supplies Needed:

  • Ingredients and supplies for your favorite cookie or muffin OR store-bought sugar cookie dough
  • Toppings to decorate cookies or muffins (see instructions)
  • Baking sheets or muffin tins
  • Storage bags or tubs for your finished baked goods

Instructions:

Because we are made in God’s image, and He created everything, we are creative beings, too. Today, to get you warmed up, start this 25 days out with something fun, like baking cookies or muffins with your children.

If you have a special recipe that you all love, that is a wonderful option. Include your children in the process, and if there is a way they can customize their own cookies or muffins, even better!

If you make cut out sugar cookies, let the kids decorate them with frosting and sprinkles or little candies after they are baked and cooled.

If you bake muffins, let each of your kids choose toppings for their own muffins (nuts, raisins, sprinkles, shredded coconut, sunflower seeds, chocolate chips, granola, etc.). And then enjoy the fruits of your creative labor together for snack or dessert!

Tired Mom Hack #1: Buy pre-made sugar cookie dough (in the tube), slice and bake rounds, and decorate like Christmas ball ornaments. You could even go the extra (fairly easy) mile and punch a hole in the top of each cookie with a straw before baking, so after baking you can string a piece of peel apart licorice (like Twizzlers Pull N Peel) through the hole so it looks like a ribbon.

Tired Mom Hack #2: Make enough cookies today to give to a neighbor (or neighbors) in the last option of the list in tomorrow’s activity. Store them in food storage bags and tomorrow, you can quickly pull them out and put together plates of cookies while the kids make cards to attach.
